| Farnham nestles in a dip carved out by the River Wey on course to join the Thames. A meeting place of several important roads for centuries, it lies on the route of a prehistoric track way along the North Downs. As a result, Farnham became and has remained essentially a delightful market town. Its fascinating history has left it with many fine buildings including some from Tudor and Georgian times. The 12th Century castle, built by Henry de Blois in 1138, overlooks the town from on high and has served many roles throughout the centuries, many monarchs and important churchmen having been entertained there. Today Farnham Castle plays host to conferences, meetings and weddings. |

| The town remains true to its market roots with many quality independent shops as well as high street names, a department store and market stalls in Castle Street together with the charming courtyard locations including the Lion and Lamb Yard and Borelli Yard. Unlike many towns, Farnham has resisted wholesale redevelopment and thereby has maintained its character and charm. Farnham is also well located for shopping towns such as Guildford,
Camberley and Farnborough. All are within easy reach and even Central
London shopping is only about an hour away. |

The countryside sits right on Farnham’s doorstep, with many beauty spots, including Frensham Common and ponds, Tilford village and the dramatic Devil’s Punch Bowl at Hindhead. There are opportunities for walking, cycling and riding as well as sailing on Frensham ponds, which has a sandy beach. There are many fine golf courses in the area and you will also find team and individual sports and pastimes well catered for by the many clubs and local organisations. The arts and cultural activities are also very much in evidence and centred on Farnham Maltings in the town. |
